The sale of UP is a bonus, I think. The real money will come for them when they sell up. I'm absolutely certain that they want to get the stadium then they'll have a much more attractive thing to sell.

The owners set expectations to achieve the one thing that really mattered to them..... a property deal involving the sale of UP.

They need to be held accountable for over selling the move. Its that simple.

Most fans never bought into the European football in 7 years nonsense but do expect us to be run professionally and not by owners who dabble in the football side ( transfers ) and to not be facing relegation struggles every season. That is next level for us.

The analogy I use is a leaky roof, You cannot patch it with a few gold plated tiles in some areas when others are falling apart. Thats' the model. Get a few gold plated ones via one season's spend but then fail to continue the investment. The roof falls through every few years. Then a few more gold plated tiles , repeat .... and so on.

It will take 5 - 10 years of above average investment but underpinned by a long term plan or strategy with a robust scouting and recruitment team ( not volunteers), the best data analysis team you can pay for, the best training and medical facilties. This should be overseen by someone who knows what they are doing . has had success doing that, sourcing players etc.. because some of teh best young players don't cost that much. But you need to know everything about them, their potential etc... and not have some volunteer looking at streams or youtube.

All the above will mean foregoing some / a material profit or dividend or loan interest for at least 5 - 10 seasons.

It is the owners right to say we don't want to do that. But this is a unique business and very much about the long term. If you do not want to do that then sell to someone that will or expect protest and unhappiness with your ownership. Like it or not Sullivan and Gold cannot treat fans like customers. These are people who have deep emotional bonds with their "brand" which is why changing it was always asking for trouble.

They would get away with it if we were consistently top half, seen to be building something but no. Take the big transfer kitty Pellegrini got teh year he joined. They follow that next season by recouping fees via a 23 million net spend, reducing wages/operating expenses, losing 6 players from the squad and replacing 1 with a like for like substitute. Some of these squad players were not regulars but they contributed ( Hernandez, Perez scored some useful goals. Obiang was better than Sanchez etc). This action is what has led us to be in real danger of relegation again. Sullivan, Gold or more likely Brady's decision to apply financial prudence asap to meet short term financial targets. I have seen it in over 40 years in the workplace, Accountants who only understand cost cutting and not the idea of investing to make much bigger gains longer term. Its what kills many companies and is one reason why we are looking at the trap door to the championship yet again.

where is the line between running a club as a 'business' to running it as a personal cash cow? people have a choice to take their 'business' elsewhere in the real world in regard to tescos, iceland or any other business that treats them with contempt, so comparing consumers to a captive audience of football fans who treat following a club like a religion is nonsensical

It's definitely the tail wagging the dog now.

Football (clubs/teams) started as community/bonding projects for company employees and are now businesses in their own rights, where as (many of) the originating communities/companies have long gone.

At the administrative level, a modern football club absolutely MUST be run as a business because football (and not, as in our history, shipbuilding) is the main/sole revenue-generating product.

One of the biggest killers is fucking up the cash-flow in a headlong attempt to buy success in the short term. History - not just football - is littered with failures; not because the products or service was bad, but because they fucked up their cash flow. No good "going to be big in 5 years" if you can't pay the wages of today's staff.

Football creates billions of pounds of income. Money attracts greedy fuckers who want more money - and they're all over the premier league. Their purpose is to create revenue not to give a shit if we get to the Carabo cup final as that will bring in less income than finishing two places higher.

Yes, it's sad for us old fuckers but things change and move on. Football as many of us knew it is dead and that's not going to change. Well, certainly not in the Prem.

At least we can enjoy free streams and watch every game from the comfort of our homes, so progress has also brought some pluses.
